GSR Air Filter Heat Shield - sealed cone filter airbox for 75mm intake tubes

What we've been up to - new silicone hoses for Land Rover, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo and Aixam

Greetings to everyone!

I owe you an apology. It has been a long time since our last blog entry — longer than I would like to admit. The workshop has been busy, and every time I sat down to write, there was another hose to design, make or test. That is not much of an excuse, but it is the honest one.

So let me make up for it with a proper update, because quite a lot has happened.

Land Rover Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6

I run a 2006 Range Rover Sport myself (although a Supercharged 4.2L V8), so this one was personal. The OEM intercooler boost hoses on the 2.7 TDV6 split — they always do, usually at the worst possible moment, and usually with a limp mode to go with it. Our silicone intercooler hose kit replaces them properly and fits both the Discovery 3 (LR3) and the Range Rover Sport. What makes them stand out is that these are the only ones on the market, that are fully oil proof, rather than oil mist proof. They really are an "install and forget" thing these cars need. Unfortunately, sales haven't been a huge success, partly because these cars are getting old and partly because these 2,7L engines are notorious for their snapping crankshafts...

Mercedes-Benz OM642 3.0 CDI

If you own anything with the OM642 V6 diesel — ML, GLK, C, E, CLS, S class, and also the Jeep, Chrysler and Lancia versions — you probably already know about the intake pipe. The plastic T-piece cracks, and the dealer answer is a complete new assembly. Our silicone repair kit fixes the part that actually fails. This repair kit has been available for a few years and seems to be a really popular item, which saved hundreds of drivers from a costly repair.

Alfa Romeo 164 V6 24V and 156 2.0 JTS

Two more OEM hoses that simply cannot be bought any more. The 164 V6 24V intake hose replaces part numbers 60578720 and 60778674, and the 156 2.0 JTS hose replaces 60679452. Both are the kind of part where the original has gone brittle, the car idles badly, and there is nothing left to buy. Now there is.

Aixam and the Kubota Z482

This one surprised even me. We were asked about Aixam microcars often enough that we developed a full six-hose coolant kit and a silicone air intake hose for all Kubota Z482 powered models — City, Crossline, Coupe, Crossover, GTO, Emotion, Ambition and Sensation.

And because not everyone needs all six at once, the coolant hoses are now also sold individually. If only one has failed, you replace only that one.

The GSR Air Filter Heat Shield

This is the one I am most pleased with. A proper sealed airbox that encloses the cone filter completely, so it draws cool air instead of engine bay air — the same principle as the expensive carbon airboxes, at a rather different price.

It went through four full physical versions before I was happy with it. Twin O-ring sealing, a threaded lid that opens by hand with no fasteners to lose, and it mounts straight onto our standard 75mm intake tube with no vehicle-specific brackets. You can see it here. This heat shield can be an addition to any of our existing intakes as well as a stand alone base for your custom intake solution.

What is coming next

Two things are on the bench right now:

  • Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4L MultiAir OEM intake hose replacement — another original part that fails and is getting hard to find.
  • More coolant hoses for the Giulietta range — the goal is to cover every Giulietta engine, not only the QV 1.75TBi we already offer.

No promises on dates. As this article proves, I am not the fastest at announcing things — but the parts do get made.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered, asked a question, or sent a photo of the install. It genuinely keeps this going.
